Happy Birthday Sis

Today felt like the first day of Spring and it is! It is also my big sister's birthday. I decided to give her a post and make a bright Spring Arrangement for her to enjoy as her own.
I love you Alejandra!!! Happy Birthday!!!

White, Gold and Violet

I spent Sunday in our sun drenched studio working on variations of this arrangement to photograph for Traditional Home Magazine. Features Editor Doris Athineos with her impeccable taste sent over a Seguso Sommerso vase which was an atypical choice for me but in the end a fun assignment. I would not have normally paired this type of loose Spring garden-style arrangement with such a modern vase but the result is both modern and romantic.
Thanks Trad Home for the shout out! I hope we can do more of these together!

More being More

The studio is such a fragrant disaster today after the whirlwind of flying azalea branches and rose bushes that formed the architecture to showcase the peonies, ranunculus, parrot tulips, garden roses and 2000 other ingredients for these arrangements last night. A case of MORE being more in what I think a very good way- promise to post more from this event later. Too tired to organize today so I went to the park on this most perfect day and took me some pics (see post below) to share the beauty around and get everyone packing their picnic baskets for the weekend! If it weren't for Central Park this city would be regrettably undesirable. My body is sore, my hands swollen but tomorrow I'll be back in the studio, my treasure chest of perishable colors to play play play!

Beware the Ides of March

Montage Cityscapes
photos by Charoonkit Thahong 2011

This week has been a roller coaster of weather patterns. It's Spring. It's not. I was asked to make this rose bowl for a corporate client's breakfast and felt a bit schizo making it on such a dreary day. I have to say, I have always loved rain! Frost I can live without but nothing is sexier than tropical rains(that is warm days and drizzle) not what we're up against today in New York.

Vernal Equinox

Ostara (1884) by Johannes Gehrts

David Austin Garden Roses, Icelandic Poppies and Jasmine

The fertility goddess Ostara is celebrated by Wiccans on the spring equinox which is officially March 20th at 8:07 pm. New beginnings! In many Arab nations Mother's Day is celebrated on the Spring Equinox. Tomorrow's "Super Moon" will, according to astrologers, bring heightened emotions with it and is an opportune time to transform turbulent situations into auspicious regenerations. Timing couldn't be better!

It's Springing!

It's raining outside, nourishing the soil and root systems which are preparing to burst forth any day now with green and blossoms. The inevitable celebration of earth's next go around!
This gift arrangement of Peonies, Helioborus, Lilac, Jasmine, Viburnum and Sweet Peas reminds it's admirer's of the delicate aromas and colors of Spring.
